Fashion Influencer: An Introduction to Making Fashion Content

Making Fashion Content

Since social media really blew onto the scene, fashion influencers have become a vital part of the fashion industry. They’re able to have a massive influence on what does well and what new items come into fashion each year, with some influencers having millions of followers and able to have a massive impact on the industry.

These influencers will often give advice on outfits, how to style certain types of clothing such as flared jeans, along with giving advice on what items are due to come into fashion and what things should be avoided. If you’re just starting out in the world of fashion influencers, it can be a daunting task and can get overwhelming if you’re unsure where to start.

In this article we’ll be taking a look into fashion influencers and how you’d go about making fashion content.

Choose your style

Before you start, it’s important to decide who you want your target audience to be. Different types of clothing will attract vastly different types of people, so ideally you want to choose a type of fashion that you have a real passion for. It’s no good choosing something that you don’t really like as this will come through on your content and it will be very clear you’re not doing it because you love it.

Take some time to decide what type of fashion you want to talk about and have a passion for, only then can you think about getting started.

It will take time

Don’t expect to have millions of followers within the first couple of weeks. It will take lots of dedication and time with some weeks you’ll feel like giving up, however these are the times to dig deep and continue. Every big influencer out there was in that position at some point, struggling to gain followers or views, it’s about persistence and ensuring you stick it out when times get tough.

It’s not all about fashion

Whilst your content will be about fashion, a lot of stuff that an influencer does goes on behind the scenes. From diary starting, travel, event planning and meetings, it all goes on and in the start it’s up to you to sort out. You’ll need to have great skills in other areas such as planning and time management to succeed and talent alone won’t get you there.

Eventually, you’ll get to a point where you may be able to hire someone to do these tasks for you, however in the start, it’s up to you. You’ll need to organise meetings and ensure videos and posts go up in time, if you’ve got sponsorships or deals with a brand, you’ll need to make sure their posts go up at the right time and be perfect otherwise that could jeopardise any deals.

The financial implications

At the start of your journey, you’ll have to pay for virtually everything yourself. You won’t have any brand deals in place meaning no free merchandise to advertise. It’s something to consider as everything you want to post or do a review on, you’ll need to pay for this yourself meaning at the start you’ll likely be losing money before you start to make it. If it’s something you can afford to do on the side, it’s a great way to get into it and if it takes off, it could be the start of something extremely special for you.

The world of fashion is a never ending and constantly evolving giant. Things are constantly going in and out of fashion and unless you stay up to date, you’ll find yourself behind and out of the loop on what trends are currently in style.

If you can get into the world of fashion influencers however, the sky really is the limit for you and the opportunities are virtually endless. It’s up to you whether you start that journey.
